So we have decided to start a blog along with the rest of the world. It seems to be the cool thing to do when you are married, and we are pretty cool!
Well, our first Thanksgiving has come and gone, but we will never forget it. It started with good intentions to be charitable and look for a place to help serve to those less fortunate. However, it turns out that in order to be successful in this you need to start searching before there is only one day left until the Big Day. All positions had been filled or the event had already come and gone. So I got up Thanksgiving day morning and headed to the store to buy the necessary items to make dinner. My plan was to just get a turkey breast since there are only two of us, even though Jake eats enough for at least two on his own. When I started searching I discovered that they were all frozen and there was no way we would have enough time for it to thaw. So I continued on to the next bin at the store. I found a small non-frozen bird and thought "it is perfect for just two people". I finish shopping and get home. I take it out of the bag and exclaim to Jake "Look at the cute little turkey I found." He seemed less impressed and actually started to laugh. I asked why he was laughing and he said very sweetly "Babe, that is not a turkey." Of course it was a turkey, it was Thanksgiving and that is what you eat. He continued to explain that turkeys do not come in cute small sizes. In fact what I was holding was a chicken. A CHICKEN!!! Who eats chicken on Thanksgiving?! Well as it turns out, we do. Well we enjoyed our chicken and no nap was required thanks to the lack of tryptophan. Upon cleaning up however, we discovered the uneaten salad still sitting in the fridge. This was not our holiday! So there you have it, a good laugh to start off our blogging adventure.
This story is quintessential Kari in so many ways. "It's Thanksgiving, and that's what you eat on Thanksgiving." Perfect logic that happens to be completely off base.
ReplyDeleteWe had Ham and pumpkin cheesecake! Christmas Day we are delivering meals on wheels and then eating at El Torito and going to a movie-Marley & Me! I have set up Skype so I can see Teri, Marisa and McKenzie anytime I want! It is so cool.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to Kari & Jake
You guys are too funny! It's so good to see you blogging!
ReplyDeleteYeah turkey for Thanksgiving gets way too much hype. I think we had shrimp one year just to be really different. At least a chicken is similar to a turkey!
Keep posting! Pictures too, please! :-)
